Located within the charming Walrus Arcade on Prestongate, this hidden gem excels in offering wholesome comfort food with an appealing array of options, particularly for breakfast enthusiasts and health-conscious diners.

At Hessle Kitchen, you're greeted with a warm atmosphere that pairs perfectly with the tantalizing aromas wafting from the kitchen. The menu is a delightful blend of classic breakfast staples and innovative vegan offerings that cater to a variety of tastes. Picture yourself savoring the Full English Breakfast, a hearty plate that epitomizes comfort with perfectly cooked eggs, sizzling sausage, and crispy bacon, or opt for the refreshing Smashed Avocado & Poached Eggs on Toast—a vibrant dish that’s as satisfying as it is nourishing.

Vegan diners will be equally pleased to find thoughtful options like the Vegan Full English Breakfast with its delightful substitutes such as fried “egg” and vegan black pudding, highlighted by Helen Smythe in her glowing review, praising it as “fabulous.” Additionally, the Vegan Burger and Hot Dog receive rave reviews for their rich flavors and satisfying textures, making them a must-try. For a sweet treat, don’t miss the French Toast with Fruit or the house-made Nutty Maple Granola, which provide a delightful starting point to your day.

The café’s ambience is characterized by its friendly, welcoming staff who consistently go above and beyond to ensure an enjoyable dining experience. Customer flows in and out, yet the café maintains an intimate feel that makes each visit special. As noted by Molly Elliott, “The staff are so lovely and helpful too,” which adds to the charm of this quaint establishment.

While the café can get busy, as Jo Prest points out, this only speaks to its popularity. Patrons often find it worthwhile to wait for a table, especially when the dishes are served hot and fresh, embodying the essence of good, home-cooked food. With every bite, you’ll understand why the rave reviews are numerous—diners leave feeling satisfied and eager to return.

Whether you're a local seeking a new favorite spot or a traveler passing through, Hessle Kitchen presents the perfect blend of comfort food and a welcoming atmosphere. Each meal here isn't just food; it’s an experience that nourishes both body and soul. You’ll undoubtedly leave with a smile on your face and plans to return!

Delicious, reasonably priced food and lovely staff. They also cater for vegans. We had the vegan burger and hot dog - both were lovely! The chips are home made and really tasty.

Lovely little café (it is quite small but not cramped) We visited for the fish and chip special on Friday. It didn't disappoint for the 2 who had it. I decided on a coronation chicken salad and it was delicious. In most places the coronation chicken is from a tub but this was strips of chicken breast. Really lovely. Staff were lovely too. The only downside is you might struggle to get a table but if there's a wait it's well worth it. We'll definitely be back. Thanks for a lovely lunch at a very reasonable price

This was our 1st visit to Hessle Kitchen, we went there because of many recommendations/good reviews about the food, I had the Full English breakfast and my wife had the Smashed Avocado and poached eggs on toast. I can honestly say the food was excellent.... probably the best we've had and that applies to both the English Breakfast and the Smashed Avocado. Great service also, I'd recommend a visit next time you're passing.

Lovely friendly little cafe. They do a fabulous vegan breakfast! The photo is the small breakfast, and love the fact you get a fried "egg" and vegan black pudding! We had the vegan chocolate cake too, and it was so light and fluffy!! Definitely recommend this place.

I recently visited this cosy little café early Saturday morning. I had actually just walked out of 'Black Cat' opposite because I was rather horrified that they didn't do chips which was all I was really feeling like at that moment. Hessle Kitchen is slightly under the radar which is not necessarily a bad thing. You can expect to spot actual locals in there. The staff were very friendly and fixed me some fantastic home made chips. Best chips I could get at that time of day and certainly on a par with 'The Haze' who also do great chips later, on certain days. I gathered that they also did a lot of home baking which I am sure I will try sometime. The cakes certainly looked very enticing in their display cabinet. The only negative was that I was sat viewing the toilets so I would deduct half a start for that but I don't think they could do anything about that given the place was pretty full. They had made the best of the space available to them. I suppose the locals know a good thing. All in all a great experience for local soul food and I will certainly be trying the breakfast next time.
